Zona Zero – Enduro Paradise
Ainsa is the beating heart of Zona Zero and that is one of the reasons why this place breathes mountain biking. Following the success of Zona Zero, surrounding villages and areas such as Sierra de Guara, Castejón de Sos and Benasque (Puro Pirineo) have started their own trail projects. This has created an enormous network of singletracks and associated facilities. This destination has a huge variety of terrain, from deep forests to rugged rock formations and moon-like dunes with endless trails along the way with breathtaking views. Zona Zero is 100% geared towards mountain bikers and has everything you need such as bike shuttles, shops, rentals and workshops. This is an Enduro paradise.

The Pink Mountains of Ainsa
Ainsa is located in the middle of the Pre-Pyrenees overlooking the highest mountains in Spain. The medieval town, founded in 714, perched on a rock (600m), and because of its strategic location, witnessed several battles. The old town was declared a cultural-artistic heritage in 1965 and Ainsa is on the list of the most beautiful villages in Spain. We stay in a nice hotel at the top of the town. The hotel has spacious rooms, a large garden with swimming pool, a wellness area and a magnificent view over the valley and the surrounding mountains. You can reach the center in 5 minutes by bike for something to eat and drink. The region has a microclimate with little precipitation in winter, many hours of sunshine and a pleasant dry cold. You can actually cycle there all year round. Even in winter.
3.5 day access to more than 100 trails
By using bike shuttles we can cover many meters. A five day trip of which we spend 3.5 days on the trails.
Day 1 – trip to Barcelona
We gather at the airport in Barcelona around 10:30 and then drive as a group with vans to Ainsa. After checking in, the bikes can be assembled or collected from the rental. In the afternoon we take a short tour to explore the area, stretch our legs and ride some nice trails to warm up.
Day 2, 3 and 4 – three days of trail riding
For the next three days we will ride the most beautiful trails of Zona Zero under the guidance of the guides. Routes are planned depending on the level and wishes of the group. There are over 100 different trails. Varying in length and difficulty. The guides know which trails are the best and under which conditions they are best to ride. The bike shuttles pick us up and take us to the trail heads after which the descents are marked. In the meantime there is time for a break, to take photos or a video and of course tips and tops from the guides. After cycling we can relax in the wellness, in the garden or in the swimming pool. In the evening we go into town to have a nice dinner and a drink Tronzadora to drink beer. Part of the proceeds of this official Zona Zero beer goes to building and maintaining the trails.
Day 5 – return trip
After breakfast we check out and drive together to the airport of Barcelona. Here we fly back home around 14:00.
For Trail and Enduro riders with experience
Do you like to ride beautiful technical and flow trails through the rugged nature where you will not meet anyone? Do you already have the necessary experience with Trails or Enduro riding in the mountains? Then this is definitely a trip for you.
The unique network of singletrack ranges from rocky and technical to sandy with flow. The single trails of Zona Zero were all old footpaths that connected villages, meadows, farmlands or the water sources. This is why the singletrack here is so natural. They are not made but are created by the passing of people or animals, over a hundred, sometimes thousands of years. These have subsequently been restored by a group of people who are committed to preserving their original nature. Pedaling from the village in a few minutes, it feels like being in the middle of a movie. An abandoned village, a view of the mountains, cycling in a riverbed, a dense forest or a desert-like landscape. You are really on an adventure with the mountain bike here.
Level of this trip
This short trip is short and sweet. We’re going to get everything out of it. This applies to both the cycling days and to your possibilities as a mountain biker. We cycle until we are up and then relax in the hotel. The Zona Zero terrain is not for beginners. Participation for this trip is from Intermediate and preferably Advanced. 70% of the descents are accessible by bike shuttles. The rest of the trailheads are easily reached with a few minutes of pedaling. Descending requires a lot of concentration and that is where most of the energy will go. Being fit and having experience with technical trails is therefore a precondition. We ride in small groups of 5-6 people. Find out more about the different levels here .
