Tour du Vosges

France

The Vosges, a low mountain range with a varied landscape, is only a 6-hour drive from Utrecht. With over 1500 kilometers of mountain bike trails, many natural single trails and a world-class bike park, this is a top destination for mountain bikers. It is also the birthplace of mountain bike legend Julien Absalon. We follow in Absalon’s footsteps and spend a long weekend riding the trails and paths on which he became the best mountain biker in the world.

Cross country trip in the Vosges

5-day tour of the Vosges

Day 1 – Arrival Gérardmer

You are expected in Gérardmer on Wednesday afternoon. After checking in and getting acquainted, we drive a warm-up lap to get in the mood and get used to the terrain and the environment.

Day 2 – to La Bresse

Friday we leave for the north after breakfast. We drive via Longemer to La Bresse, the arrival place of the first stage.

Day 3 – to the Grand Ballon

The second stage takes us from La Bresse, the largest ski village in the Vosges, to the literal roof of the Vosges and the figurative highlight of the weekend, the Grand Ballon. We spend the night at the top in Chalet Hôtel Du Grand Ballon.

Day 4 – to Cornimont

We start the day with a wonderful descent of the Grand Ballon. We drive south to the small and picturesque town of Cornimont.

Day 5 – back to Gérardmer

On Sunday we leave early and drive back to where the weekend started, Gérardmer. After a refreshing swim in the Lac de Gérardmer we pack up the cars and drive back to the Netherlands.

Cross country tour

On this tour we follow in the footsteps of Julien Absalon, a cross country legend. This tour is therefore particularly suitable for cross country riders; you like eating miles, climbing and of course technical descents. There is an insurmountable amount of climbing in the Vosges. The surface varies from roots to rocks and the descents can be both flowie and very technical.

Level of this trip

Every day there are two different routes that differ in number of kilometers and in particular in the number of meters in altitude. We drive daily between 50 and 75 kilometers and between 1300 and 2500 meters in altitude. This trip is mainly for the intermediate and advanced levels. Wondering if this trip is right for you? Season Kick-Off 2017 - Extended version

Went on the road with Gijs-Jan Lavèn during the Kick-off as well as the 3 following days. Overall, it was a really great trip. It seemed as if luck could be forced. Unprecedented good year, that also helped. In larger and small groups in the mountains you can see that Gijs-Jan is in his element. Beautiful routes chosen and scored without a trace! Highly recommended to go on the road with him, nice and good guide!
