Ski Touring in Luzhba, Siberia

Luzhba is an old train station and a collection of huts in the middle of Siberia. Surrounded by mountains, covered in a thick pack of powder snow. The snow suit is protected by the many trees and by the low temperature and low humidity. Here you will find a simple life far from civilization. Every day is all about felling, the fresh mountain air and the descents in tracked powder. You will also experience local life. After a day in the mountains, return to the lodge to warm up in the Banja (traditional Russian sauna). In the evening you can enjoy the delicious local cuisine, good conversations around the fire and homemade vodka.

Ski Touring & Split Boarding in Siberia

Luzhba is famous for the large amount of snowfall, from early in the season until March. You will not find any ski lifts or other tour ski groups here. The descents therefore remain untracked for a long time. Each group can find their “own” powder snow here. With the help of local guides and their years of experience in the area, we take you to the best runs in Siberia. We keep the groups small to ensure the best possible experience. Maximum 6 tour skiers or splitboarders.

The runs range from 200 to 700 meters in elevation with a gradient of between 30 and 40 degrees. Depending on the level and the wishes of the group, we ski or board 1200 to 1500 meters per day.

Luzhba Lodge

We spend the night in a wooden lodge, built in 2016. Simple, but warm and clean. The lodge has central heating and electricity. On the ground floor is the drying room, lounge, a number of bedrooms, toilets and washrooms. Each bedroom offers space for 4 people. One double room is available at an additional cost. The dining room is in a separate building.

The banya is the best way to warm up and relax after a day in the mountains. A traditional Russian sauna in a separate building. First warm up well and then a dive is the snow, the Siberian way of showering.

The cook does his best to make the food, just like the skiing and snowboarding, an unforgettable experience. Traditional Siberian and Russian dishes using the best local ingredients. There are three hot meals a day and plenty of snacks for touring.

Best trip ever!

Dear Michael,

I can say that the ‘wePowder Season Kick Off’ was the most beautiful trip I have ever made in the mountains (and there are quite a few, because I have been skiing since I was 3 years old). So I can think of very little criticism. We are clearly and always informed well in advance, which is reassuring for a beginner. The price was right for the unforgettable experience I got to experience. You and your employees were always friendly and helpful.

Erwin is a very great gentleman. Not only literally but also figuratively. Taking a beginner group safely off-piste is a challenge. The difference in level in the beginners group did not make this any easier. The last day the ‘lesser gods’ of the group were not with us and we kept a very nice pace. I have learned a lot in various areas (technique, safety, choice of terrain, group dynamics,…). His approach was thoughtful, constructive, pleasant with an occasional ‘dry’ humour. You always ‘triggered’ me when it came to safety. Not that I felt unsafe (perhaps during that long descent with traverse), I would rather describe it as ‘aware of the various dangers’. I was able to get acquainted with the different aspects of ‘freeriding’ and it leaves me wanting more.

So, I also want to wish you the best of luck with Epique. I am sure we will meet again soon.

Best regards from exotic Belgium!
