Ski tour Silvretta Hut tour
When you walk out of the mountain hut in the morning, you are right in the middle of nature, no groomed slopes, lifts or mass tourism. You can enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the Alps here. This ski tour and splitboard adventure takes you to the most beautiful mountain huts of the Silvretta Grüppe, a high mountain area on the border of Austria and Switzerland and one of the most famous tour ski areas in the Alps. Here you will find challenging climbs to above 3000 meters, untracked descents and the nicest mountain huts. Because we stay above 2000 meters, the snow is still very good in March and we look for powder, or delicious firn.
Your first tour ski or splitboard trip?
This trip in the Silvretta is ideal for a first tour ski or splitboard experience. We will show you around with the equipment, running techniques and there is time to work on your freeride technique. To make sure we can give everyone enough personal attention, we keep the groups small and go out in groups of a maximum of 7 skiers or boarders. We sleep in well-known and well-maintained huts such as the Heidelberger-, Wiesbadener-, and the Jamtalhütte.
Why this trip?
- Ideal as a first tour ski experience
- Beautiful area for novice ski tourers and splitboarders
- Hut to hut trip across glaciers
- Comfortable and luxurious mountain huts
- We pay attention to descent and ascent technique
“Of course you have to be a bit lucky with such a trip in terms of weather and group layout. Everything else, you don’t have to worry about that because Epique has arranged it very well. The professional guides give you a very good feeling of safety and their passion for the sport means that they continuously challenge the group to give that little bit extra.” – André
Varied terrain and good snow conditions
The Silvretta Mountains connect Austria and Switzerland. We start in the ski resort of Ischgl where we warm up with a few freeride runs. Then we head into the mountains, away from civilization. The terrain is diverse and several routes are possible, a descent for every level.
The Silvretta, located on the north side of the Alps, receives a lot of snow at low pressure areas from northwestern Europe. From the end of February there is more than enough snow. Because we stay above 2000 meters, the snow conditions here are usually very good until April.
Program – a 5 day trip
Day 1 – Arrival at the hotel
At the end of the afternoon you will meet the guide and the other participants at the hotel. After the introduction and material check, we sit down for a good dinner.
Day 2 – Freeride and Freetour in Ischgl
We start with a few descents on the slopes. As soon as everyone has the feeling again we move to the off-piste runs. The guide gives tips and tricks to fine-tune your technique. At the end of the afternoon we descend to the Heidelberger Hütte, just outside the ski area
Day 3 – Day tour around the Heidelberger Hütte
Today we start and end at the Heidelberger Hütte. We can go out with a light backpack and get used to touring. Today the guide pays attention to walking on tour skis or splitboard. We practice with the material and pay attention to the correct running technique, especially the ‘pitzenkehren’. We also make time for a short safety clinic. Around the hut are several peaks that we can climb.
Day 4 – The first crossing
Today we make the crossing to the Jamtalhütte. Depending on the snow conditions and the weather we go via Zahnjoch or the Kronenjoch and climb about 700 altimeters. After a wonderful descent we arrive at the Jamtalhütte.
Day 5 – Wiesbadener Hütte
After a good breakfast we start the journey to the last hut of this trip, the cozy Wiesbadener Hütte. We tour the impressive glacier, the Jamtal Ferner. After a climb of about 800 altimeters we are rewarded with a long descent to the hut.
Day 6 – Wiesbadener Hütte to Paznauntal
From the hut there are still a few nice climbs possible. We conclude the tour with a long descent to Galtür. Back in civilization we toast to a successful trip and conclude with a joint dinner.
Day 7 – Return to the Netherlands
After breakfast we check out and say goodbye. Everyone goes home on their own.
