Off-piste Training Portes du Soleil

Freeriding for a week and working on your off-piste technique in one of the largest ski areas in the world? Portes du Soleil connects 14 villages in France and Switzerland, no ‘concrete blocks’ that France is known for, but beautiful authentic villages. The area has 650 km of slopes and more than enough terrain to work on your off-piste skiing or snowboarding technique. From the lift there is plenty of choice of freeride descents. With a short hike from the lift you are quickly in the backcountry, with a steep couloir or wide field full of powder snow at your feet. A fully catered trip, with 7 nights in a lovely hotel and 6 day lift pass for Portes du Soleil.

Freeriding in the largest ski area in the world

Les Portes du Soleil: the name says it all, you have a lot of sun. But also a lot of snowfall: 6 to 7 meters per year. This is due to the proximity of Lake Geneva (humid air supply) and the mountains of the ‘Dents du Midi’. The latter block the snow air, so that most of the powder snow falls directly into the area. January is a month that has been characterized in recent years by a lot of snow, a lot of sun and low temperatures. In short: ideal for freeride adventures!

“Had a great week in Portes du Soleil, both in the snow and in the hotel! Had a lot of fun with the group. And our guide Roderik was able every day to find beautiful descents that matched our level. Again learned a lot, done new things and pushed boundaries. I’m already looking forward to the next trip!” – Alice

6 days of working on your off-piste technique

We spend the night in the authentic mountain hotel Esprit Montagne at La Chapelle D’Abondance. From here we will explore the Portes du Soleil site for six days. We ski or snowboard in groups of a maximum of 7 participants, which we divide according to your level and wishes. The emphasis of this freeride week is on making many meters in the off-piste terrain. Have a blast and score as much powder as possible. In addition to great skiing and boarding, there is also a lot of attention for technique. With tips, tricks and targeted exercises, we make you a better off-piste skier or boarder. Back at the hotel, while enjoying a good glass of wine, we make time for a video analysis or a clinic. During this winter sports adventure you will be accompanied by one of our experienced and qualified guides. They know how to challenge you in a personal and safe way and make you a little better every time.

“A fantastic off-piste training (November 2017) in Hintertux left me wanting more! This time I wanted to get away for a while with Epique, to a new destination. It turned out to be a freeride trip to Portes du Soleil (Jan 2018).” Read more…

Totally awesome!

6 days of training was 90% off piste. Nice atmosphere. Quite spicy but so good for the learning curve. Thanks in part to Epique’s top guides, who always managed to find world spots with undisturbed terrain. Totally awesome!
