Freeriding on the Hintertux Glacier

The Hintertux Glacier has been our favorite winter sports destination in the early and late season for over ten years. The area extends from 2,000 to 3,250 meters and has 90 km of slopes in the winter months. The high location ensures good snow security and stable conditions. The large and varied off-piste terrain allows us to ski or board challenging runs at every level.

“Everything is well organized, good clear communication, quality guides and a lot of fun! This is worth repeating!” Read more…

Hotel Lanersbacherhof

The 4* hotel Lanersbacherhof is only a 5-minute drive from the valley station. In this atmospheric family hotel we have been warmly welcomed and well looked after for years. You stay here in a spacious double room or, if available, in a single or triple room. The hotel’s cuisine is one of the best in the Zillertal. Star chef Toni Fercher and his crew prepare the healthy and varied menu: “Traditional Tyrolean cooking culture combined with modern, international dishes”.
After an intensive day in the mountains, you can relax in the extensive wellness area with, among other things, an outdoor sauna and a swimming pool. Exercise and relax.

Ski or board at your level

You are already good at skiing or boarding on the slopes and want to learn how to freeride? Or would you like more stability and control at a higher pace or on steep terrain? This trip is for anyone who wants to get better off the slopes. With 6 to 7 groups per training week, a group is made for each level and we ensure that everyone can train at their own level.

“Just returned from an off-piste training in Hintertux. It was beautiful! Beautiful descents, nice group and clear explanations from a very knowledgeable guide. Intensive skiing during the day and time for relaxation in the evening. Good combination. I’ll be back .” – Renee

4 days of training

Day 1 – Arrival in Lanersbacherhof, introduction and material check

From the Netherlands you drive to Tux in about 9 hours. You can fly to Innsbruck. From 4 pm you can check in at the hotel and meet your travel companions at the hotel bar. Around 7 pm we sit down for a joint dinner, followed by the official opening, announcement of the group layout and briefing of the program.

Day 2 – Warming up, getting used to and technique exercises

Your trainer builds up the program slowly and starts with a few warm-up laps. When everyone is used to it, we start with the first exercises. We also start on the slopes with experienced freeriders. It starts with the basics and you pick it up the fastest here, even when it comes to off-piste technique. It is an intensive day for novice freeriders, but you will finish with your first off-piste descents!

Day 3 & 4 – Making a lot of off-piste meters

With targeted exercises and personal feedback and tips you will notice that you are getting better and better in the terrain. You learn to control your pace and descend with a calm upper body, both in long and short turns. Every situation requires a different approach. We look for undisturbed powder, hard and tracked terrain and moguls. The guide tries to challenge you and take you out of your comfort zone. One step further every day. Every evening you do a video analysis in the hotel with your trainer and group, while enjoying a drink. Learning from yourself and from others.

Day 5 – The final day

With the video analysis in mind, we will look for challenging and untracked terrain, possibly with a short hike. You will make a lot of meters and you will receive a few tips. We ski or board for a long time and have a late lunch. Around 3 o’clock we say goodbye and start the journey back to the Netherlands.

“My guide, Michiel, was critical of skiing technique, speed and safety in a good way. The training is structured logically, where you are continuously challenged to find your limit. A lot of attention is also paid to safety, which in my opinion the most important thing is if you are going to ride off-piste. The accommodation is really fully equipped and the staff is extremely friendly. Definitely worth repeating for me.” – Kelly

About this trip

Blog post

Followed the off-piste training in Hintertux last days from Thursday to Sunday. Had good, fun and varied training from Michiel de Ruijter and Roderik Sillevis on both the piste and off-piste. The accommodation and guidance were perfectly fine. there is the possibility to try out a different type of ski.
All in all, a must for anyone who wants to improve and broaden their skiing experience.
