Mountain bike training in the Harz
The Harz is located in the middle of Germany, an extremely suitable area for an adventurous MTB training weekend. The trails and descents are challenging, but not as rough as in the Alps. During this 3-day training we use different bike parks and the endless trails in the immediate vicinity. You will spend a long weekend actively working with qualified trainers to improve the ascent, descent and cornering technique. There is especially a lot of cycling! This is how we work on our fitness this weekend.
Training trip in the Harz
- Hahnenklee and Braunlage are among the most beautiful bike parks in Germany
- The Harz has single trails for all levels
- A lot of driving and learning, in small groups with personal guidance
- German hospitality and cosiness
Three days of trail riding from Hahnenklee
We spend the entire weekend in a comfortable 4* hotel at the foot of the Hahnenklee bike park. Hahnenklee is a small village in the middle of the Harz, located at about 500 meters altitude. The village is located at the foot of the Bocksberg. In the spring and summer this mountain is transformed into a serious bike park, ideal to use to improve our mountain bike skills. The bike park is well maintained, accessible for all levels and has the advantage that we can go up by lift. A little further on is the more challenging bike park Schulenberg, about 10 kilometers from Hahnenklee. This bike park is easily accessible via a beautiful mountain bike route from Hahnenklee. Outside the bike parks, the Harz has a huge network of trails, from flowing singletrack to challenging routes over rocky surfaces.
Day 1 – Bike Park Hahnenklee
On Friday morning you are expected at the 4* hotel in Hahnenklee, at the foot of the bike park of the same name. While enjoying a cup of coffee, we get to know the group and discuss the program.
We ride a warm round and then take the first lift in the bike park up. We spend the entire afternoon on MTB downhill training in the bike park. We have lunch in one of the many nice restaurants in Hahnenklee and end the day with a tour in the surrounding area. When we return to the hotel, we clean the bikes and enjoy the wellness or a well-deserved drink on the terrace. Tonight we dine in the authentic and historic town of Goslar. After dinner there is a video analysis and we look ahead at the program for the next day.
Day 2 – Bike Park Schulenberg
We leave early and cycle towards the Schulenberg bike park, an excellent warm-up. We spend a large part of the day on themes that you would like to learn or improve on your bike. We have lunch at the Okerstausee and after lunch we drive back to Hahnenklee via a beautiful route through the Okertal. Again we take the time for a video analysis and prepare for the last day.
Day 3 – Mountain biking with shuttle
On Sunday, we take a bike shuttle to the most beautiful natural trails in the Harz Mountains. Today we want to make as many descent meters as possible and apply everything we have learned to the many challenging trails of the Harz Mountains. We cycle on until the early afternoon and then have lunch together in Hahnenklee. After a refresher at the hotel, we get tired and satisfied in the car for the return trip to the Netherlands.
You have been mountain biking for a while and have gained experience on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, the Veluwe and maybe even in Limburg. In the flat Netherlands you are already well on your way and you are looking for more! During this long weekend we improve our mountain bike skills. We have all the time and possibilities for this in one of the two bike parks that we visit. But of course we don’t want to linger in the park all weekend and also use our endurance condition. That is why we head into the area in the afternoon for a wonderful mountain bike tour. During these afternoon rides we try to apply what we have learned in the park to the natural trails. In this way we improve our condition, we apply the learned techniques and we also see a lot of the environment.
