Heli Skiing in Romania
But few people know that you can also go heli-skiing or snowboarding perfectly in Romania. You will hardly find winter sports tourism here, but you will find beautiful snow-capped mountains. In the western part of the Transylvanian Alps lies the Tarcu Mountains, a vast terrain that will amaze even the seasoned freerider.
Heli Skiing in Romania
Our regular partner for heliski trips in Romania is Heliski Romania. The lodge is located near Muntele Mic, a small ski area with 19 km of slopes. Around this you will find a wide range of descents with a maximum vertical drop of 800 meters. Heli-skiing in Romania means many cool descents, a lot of fun and a relaxed atmosphere. And because it’s very accessible, this might just be the ultimate long weekend for freeriders.

The passionate and hospitable team will do everything they can to make your stay unforgettable. We will spend the night in a simple but comfortable lodge.
Terrain for novice and advanced freeriders
The Tarcu Mountains, in the western part of the Southern Carpathians, have the most snowfall in Romania. The highest peak is the Vârful Căleanu, 2,196 meters. The mountain range offers mainly easy terrain. You will find wonderfully sloping and playful descents with a height difference of 800 meters. The terrain is ideal for the novice and advanced freeriders who want to challenge themselves. Take into account all possible types of snow, deep powder to spring snow. The month with the best chance of fresh powder snow is February.
Program – 3 days of heli-skiing
Day 1 – Travel to Muntele Mic
The journey starts on Thursday morning at Schiphol. In the afternoon we arrive in Timisoara and are taken to the lodge. Before we sit down for a good dinner, we meet the team and receive a briefing about the program of the coming days.
Day 2 – Two days of heli-skiing
After a good breakfast, the helicopter is already warming up next to the lodge. We will spend two days looking for the most beautiful runs that Romania has to offer. On average we make 6 to 8 runs per day. We will have lunch on the way in the form of a picnic.
Day 3 – Freeriding or Touring
The last day, Sunday, is an extra day. If we couldn’t fly day 1 or 2 due to bad weather, we will go out with the helicopter today. If not, the guides will take us for a few freeride runs or a day of ski touring or split boarding. At the end of the afternoon we are brought back to Timisoara and conclude the trip in a good restaurant.
Day 4 – Return to the Netherlands
After breakfast we will be transferred back to Timisoaro airport. At the end of the afternoon we land in Amsterdam.
