Heli Skiing in Kamchatka, Russia

Kamchatka is located in the far east of Russia, between the Sea of Okhotsk and the Bering Sea. A remote and largely unspoilt peninsula that has 370,000 inhabitants, but covers an area of Germany, Austria and Switzerland together. The landscape is characterized by about 200 volcanoes, a rugged coastline, deep fjords and almost endless powder descents. The opportunities for heli-skiing in this vast wilderness are astounding. Descents that seem endless over the flanks of smoking volcanoes.

Heliskiing in Kamchatka

Ski areas are not the reason to travel to Kamchatka. The heli-ski lodge of our partner Vertikalny Mir does. In 2022 we will travel again to this special place and go heli-skiing and boarding in Kamchatka for six days. The island has only been accessible to visitors since 1990 and is almost non-touristy. Only a small number of lucky skiers and snowboarders travel to this impressive island every year. And you can be one of these.

Why this trip?

  • Most unique experience on skis or snowboard
  • Descend from volcanoes and down to the sea
  • Impressive and undiscovered terrain
  • Descents of up to 2,000 vertical meters
  • A deep and reliable snow cover
  • Glaciers, volcanoes, fjords and bears. All in one trip

Epique has planned two weeks on which we will go to Kamchatka with a group. Depending on availability, you can make this trip in a different period, possibly with your own group. Please contact us for availability.

Paradise for adventurers

The scenery on Kamchatka is like no other place. With the smoking volcanoes, the terrain seems inaccessible but extremely beautiful. At 4,750 meters, Klyuchevskaya Sopka is the highest volcano on the peninsula. The terrain is very varied from one area to another. We ski or board over wide sloping slopes, through long steep couloirs and arrive at wonderful tree runs. This far north, the island receives massive amounts of snow during the long winter. In the spring, when the days get longer, heli-skiing takes off here. Even in June, there can still be up to 6 meters of snow. In Kamchatka’s open terrain, winds can have a significant impact on snow conditions. Expect lots of perfect powder snow, but also wind-blown snow or delicious firn.

Heliski Lodge

During this trip we will stay at Hotel Antarius near the village of Paratunka. A comfortable hotel with all the comforts you could wish for during a heli-ski trip. After a long day, relax in the sauna or swimming pool and enjoy delicious local dishes, with the King Crab as the highlight.

“Not the first country you think of going skiing. Wrongly! The environment alone is worth it. Plus great powder snow all week! Heliskiing in Russia?! Just do it!” – Rocco

Down Days

If it is not possible to fly due to bad weather, there is plenty to do. You can of course relax for a day in the hotel, but you can also choose to take a trip with a dog sled or snowmobile. If you still want to ski or board, we can freeride or tour in a ski area. And something completely different, clay pigeon shooting is also an option.

“Kilometers of descents and skiing in sulfur fumes from volcanoes, through abandoned Russian army villages, along Siberian fjords… An unforgettable experience!” – Renee

Impressive trip to Siberian Kamchatka Peninsula

In May 2018 I went to Kamchatka, Russia with Epique. First time heli-skiing for me, but certainly not the last! Beautiful spring weather and kilometers of descents in the firnschnee. Skiing in sulfur fumes from (active) volcanoes, through abandoned Russian army villages, along Siberian fjords… An unforgettable experience!
