Russia – Snow
Winter sports travel to Russia
Russia may not be the first country that comes to mind when you think of a winter sports holiday. That is unjustified, because you can enjoy heli-skiing, freeriding and touring. Our favorite destinations are Kamchatka and the Caucasus. Both are rugged, unspoilt and undiscovered by mass tourism.
Ski or snowboard in Russia
There are no ski resorts in Kamchatka. Large tundra plains with volcanoes, rugged coastlines with huge fjords, rocks, stone beaches and thinly wooded slopes. Here you can make descents of 1,500 altimeters to the sea. You have the chance to spot brown bears, whales, sea lions and sea eagles.
The Caucasus is relatively close by and is slightly more accessible than Kamchatka. You fly via Moscow to Sochi in six hours. The 2014 Winter Olympics were held here. Outside the small ski areas there are many off-piste opportunities. The snow-capped mountains are framed by dense coniferous forests where you can make beautiful tree runs.
